Good Omens

February 23rd, 2008

Sawasdee Krap! Landed safe and sound and had the easiest arrival into Thailand I’ve ever had. Touched down at 7:40am and was lying on my bed in the hotel with a cold can of Chang by 9:15! The best thing about it was that my bag was directly in front of me as I approached the carousel at reclaim. That never happens to me.

I’ve checked in at the Hotel Malaysia, just off Sathorn Rd. It’s a simple place but roomy and clean and very friendly. It’s the second time I’ve stayed here and would recommend it to anyone on a budget (I’m in a triple room as it’s the only one vacant and it’s just 718 Baht a night, just over 11 quid). Felt fine when I first checked into the hotel but the fatigue quickly descended and I had to hit the sack at half past eight in the evening.

Sunday morning now and feeling better. Going to meet my old Manchester pal Jenks for some lunch and take it easy for the rest of the day. Flathunting tomorrow.

Au revoir :)

February 21st, 2008

Well, finally packed and ready to go.

Spent the last 2 days surrounded by all manner of shite that I’ve collected over the last couple of years. It’s strange but liberating to reduce all your worldly possessions down to one bag (and a corner of the loft, thanks mum & dad!).

Going out for a farewell meal tonight with ma & pa & Pol. We’re off to the Bistro West 156 on Burton Rd. It’s owned by our mates Phil & Rachel but I must confess I’ve never been. It gets ace reviews on Sugarvine though.

My flight’s at 9:20 am tomorrow. Got butterflies in my stomach but they’re gradually making way for excitement. I just need to remember that this is a trial and if, after a few months, I can’t cut it or don’t like it then I hop on a plane and come home. It’s just a 12 hour flight at the end of the day. It’s like being just around the corner.

Sort of.
